Former India leg-spinner Laxman Sivaramakrishnan has been given a one-year contract to coach spin bowling at the Assam Cricket Association (ACA) Cricket Academy, starting in November 2026. Sivaramakrishnan, now sixty, will work with the state’s upcoming generation of spinners at the academy’s Fulung facility in North Guwahati.
On October 18, 2026, Sivaramakrishnan visited the Fulung campus and led a session focused on the subtleties of leg-spin, laying the foundation for the appointment. The association was clearly impressed enough by that visit to formalize the agreement in a matter of weeks.
Laxman had resigned from the BCCI commentary panel earlier in 2026, citing a lack of opportunities. After that departure, he clearly changed his course with the structured coaching position at the ACA.
What responsibilities will Laxman Sivaramakrishnan have at the ACA Cricket Academy?
Sivaramakrishnan’s primary responsibility at the Fulung facility will be creating and implementing a coaching program specifically for the young spinners at the academy. He has a full season to establish technical foundations and develop individual bowlers within the ACA system thanks to the one-year engagement.
In addition to his playing experience, Laxman has experience in governance from his time as an ICC Cricket Committee player representative. Together with years of broadcasting experience, this exposure to cricket administration broadens the technical knowledge he will impart to his charges.Beginning in November 2026, Laxman Sivaramakrishnan will serve as a spin bowling coach at ACA Cricket Academy for a period of one year. Through a structured coaching program at the ACA Cricket Academy in Fulung, North Guwahati, the former Indian leg spinner will share his knowledge with the young and talented spinners, according to an ACA press release.
Sivaramakrishnan is among the youngest leg-spinners to represent India at that level, having started his international career at the age of just 17. He took 26 wickets in the longer format and 15 in one-day cricket over the course of nine Tests and sixteen One-Day Internationals. These figures demonstrated real promise during a competitive period for Indian spin bowling.

His performance against England in Mumbai, where he returned match figures of 12 for 181, was one of the high points of his Test career. It showed that he could take advantage of home conditions against elite opponents. One of the most talked-about individual bowling performances of his generation is still that effort against England.
Regarding team honors, Sivaramakrishnan was a member of the Indian team that won the 1985 Benson and Hedges World Championship of Cricket in Australia. This victory is regarded as one of the most significant accomplishments of Indian limited-overs cricket during that decade. Sivaramakrishnan’s coaching career with Assam’s spinners is shaped by his playing background, which includes a 17-year-old debut, a World Championship winner’s medal, and a 12-wicket Test haul against England in Mumbai.
