Ollie Robinson was named England Cricketer of the Year at the Vitality Cricket Media Club Awards, which took place on Tuesday at Lord’s. The trophy named after former England captain Bob Willis was won by the 32-year-old Middlesex seam bowler, who received his first significant individual honor since rejoining the Test team this year.
Prior to his return in 2026, Robinson had been excluded from England selection for more than two years. He established himself as a mainstay of England’s red-ball attack by taking 28 wickets at an average of 9.32 in four Test matches this summer against Pakistan and New Zealand.
With 104 Test wickets under his belt, the seasoned right-arm seamer discussed the importance of his comeback to international cricket. Getting this award is a great honor. Robinson was quoted as saying, “Coming back and having the summer I’ve had has been incredibly special after spending so much time away from the England side. “Receiving recognition like this is even more meaningful because there were undoubtedly some difficult times along the way. I’ve really enjoyed playing for England again, and hopefully there will be many more to come,” he continued.
Robinson moved up to the top five of the ICC’s Test bowling rankings with his 28 wickets during the four-match summer. His ability to bowl consistently throughout the series against Pakistan and New Zealand showed that he was willing to take charge of England’s attack.
Ollie Robinson’s part in the winter schedule in England
Robinson will be a key player in England’s red-ball program for the winter. The seam bowler will play in the 150th anniversary Test in Melbourne, Australia, as well as future tours to South Africa and Bangladesh. The fact that he was chosen for these prominent games shows how confident the selectors were in his capacity to perform at the highest caliber.
Robinson was awarded the Bob Willis Trophy for the fifth time since it was reallocated in 2022. One of the most prestigious individual awards in the domestic game, the award honors exceptional contributions to English cricket. His name now belongs to a small number of recent recipients of the honor.
